Raymond Tan is an associate in the Corporate Practice Group in the firm's Shanghai office.  Mr. Tan specializes in Chinese law and focuses his practice on foreign direct investment and international trade.

Areas of Practice

Mr. Tan has advised in the areas of foreign direct investment (FDI), merger and acquisition, venture capital, real estate finance, U.S. bankruptcy matters, international trade disputes as well as distressed asset restructuring and overseas listing. Mr. Tan has worked with clients in a wide range of industries including private equity groups, commercial banks, telecommunication enterprises, overseas manufacturers and toll road JVs.

As a Cantonese who has studied in Shanghai for several years, Mr. Tan is able to apply Mandarin, Cantonese, fluent English and basic Shanghai dialect accordingly in his legal practice. Before joining the firm, Mr. Tan exercised another internship in a leading domestic law firm that focused mainly on maritime and admiralty law, making him a skillful practitioner in that area as well.

 Advised a U.S. venture capital on its involvement in the Chinese telecommunication sector

 Advised a U.S. hedge fund on enforcing its credit against a Hong Kong real estate developer with projects mainly located in mainland China

 Advised a Hong Kong wine auction company on its business development in China

 Participated in an M & A case on FDI and Customs relevant matters

 Participated in a case on matters related to distressed asset restructure, including coping with government restrictions upon equity transfer and foreign exchange issues  

 Advised a U.S. bank on establishing its branches and sub-branches in China

 Advised on matters related to an international trade dispute between a Taiwanese trading company and a U.S. listed company
