Maureen Corcoran is a partner in the Corporate Practice Group in Sheppard Mullin's San Francisco office.

Areas of Practice

Ms. Corcoran specializes in the practice of health care law.  She counsels clients from a wide spectrum of companies in the health care sector on transactional, regulatory and operational issues.

Her clients have included HMOs, insurers, Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Plans, hospitals, and medical clinics.  She also has represented a wide variety of specialty health care companies, including publicly-held clinical laboratories, ambulatory surgical centers, dialysis centers, imaging centers, and pharmacies.  She has represented hospitals in affiliation and purchase transactions, including working with the Office of the Attorney General Charitable Trust division.

Ms. Corcoran provides clients with advice on the development and implementation of corporate compliance plans, as well as HIPAA policies and procedures. She also provides advice on Medicare and Medicaid regulations, fraud and abuse, and self-referral.  She routinely provides advice on information technology in the health care setting.

In the clinical trials area, she provides advice on patient consent, use of medical information in research and resolution of conflicts of interest.  She has also assisted Institutional Review Boards in developing policies and procedures for compliance with federal regulations.

Prior to joining Sheppard Mullin, Ms. Corcoran was a partner and chair of the Health Care Practice team at the San Francisco office of the Pillsbury firm. She has also served as General Counsel of the U.S. Department of Education, and as Special Assistant to the General Counsel of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. She is a frequent lecturer before national healthcare organizations on issues pertaining to the health law field and has published numerous articles.
